Magdalene Bridge, Oxford
One of the fascinating things about visiting a place like Oxford (or England in general) is actually seeing all of the places and things you've been reading about forever and ever, especially since you see them with a sort of double vision -- both as fabulous historic places and as parts of the everyday lives of the people around you, so much that people give directions to shops or whatever referencing Magdalene Bridge
or the Martyr's Monument as casually as someone from the Atlanta/Marietta area gives directions that reference the Big Chicken.

As nearly as i can read the rather crude map i found online, Magdalene Bridge is just about at the confluence of the Cherwell and the Thames; certainly, it's right by St Hilda's College (where the tour stayed) and we had to cross it to enter Oxford proper.
