Simon Pauses for a Moment
Simon Nicol -- a founding member (his family lived in "Fairport" in Muswell Hill, the house from which the band's name derives),
but not, in terms of membership in the band, the longest serving member, having dropped out for a while some time before the 1979 - 1987 hiatus.

Simon's vocals are one of the things that make Fairport Fairport, especially when he fluffs a line and plows right on.
(In his liner notes for "The Cropredy Box", Simon cheerfully admits that. at least twice in his career, he's missed out a crucial
verse and let Matty Groves off scot-free,
instead of slain by the righteously angry Lord Arnold...)
